Johnny Cash and Friends was a four-week revival of the variety show spirit as featured on The Johnny Cash Show several years earlier. Roy Clark and Tanya Tucker were among the musical guests, but this show also featured a fair amount of comedic performances, including guest slots from Saturday Night Live’s Steve Martin and Jim Varney (best known as the bumbling Ernest P. Worrell of film and TV fame).
