This third season episode of the long-running series provided an opportunity for Johnny Cash to play a villain, and a perfect foil for the famously rumpled LAPD detective. Cash played Tommy Brown, a gospel singer looking to enjoy his riches without his zealous wife (Ida Lupino) – so he arranges for their plane to crash (without him on it, naturally). To most law enforcers, it looks like an accident … but Lt. Columbo (played by Peter Falk) isn’t like most law enforcers.
