This inspiring CBS TV movie features Johnny Cash in the titular role as a Kentucky-raised coal-miner struggling to provide for his children in Cincinnati after the sudden death of his wife. Veteran actor Eli Wallach co-stars as a sympathetic employer and Brenda Vaccaro plays his on-screen daughter, who helps Jesse Hallam overcome his greatest challenge: illiteracy.
